Appointment of new chairman of the Education Commission
The Government announced today (April 12) that the Chief
Executive has appointed Dr the Hon Rosanna Wong Yick-ming
as the Chairman of the Education Commission (EC) for a term
of two years from May 1, 2001 to April 30, 2003.
The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, said, "Dr Wong
is an eminently suitable successor to Mr Antony Leung as the
Chairman of the EC. Dr Wong has rich experience in public
service and youth affairs. We are confident that she will
be able to lead the EC in its future work, particularly in
monitoring the implementation of the full range of education
reforms.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Antony
Leung for his valuable contributions to education through
leading the EC to complete the comprehensive review of the
education system. The recommendations made by the EC under
Mr Leung's chairmanship have laid a solid basis for the further
implementation of the education reform in Hong Kong.
The Secretary for Education and Manpower, Mrs Fanny Law,
also welcomed the appointment. She said, "I warmly welcome
Dr Wong to be the new Chairman of the EC, and I look forward
to working closely with her in the coming two years to make
continuous improvements to our education system."
