Appointments to the Education Commission
The Government announced today (July 5) the appointments
and re-appointments to the Education Commission (EC).
The following incumbent non-official members have been re-appointed
for a two-year term from July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2003:
* Professor Cheng Kai-ming
* Mr Cheung Man-kwong
* Professor Chung Yue-ping
* Mr Irving Koo Yee-yin
* Mr Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen
* Mr Tai Hay-lap
* Mr Michael Tien Pak-sun
* Mr Tso Kai-lok
* Ms Harlanna Yeung Chui-chun
* Mr Yeung Yiu-chung
Mrs Judy Chua Tiong Hong-sieng has been re-appointed for
a one-year term from July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002. Professor
Ruth Hayhoe has been re-appointed for six months from July
1, to December 31, 2001.
The following two new non-official members have also been
appointed to the Commission for a two-year term from July
1, 2001 to June 30, 2003:
* Ms Chan Chui-chun
* Mr Pang Yiu-kai
Ms Chan Chui-chun is an experienced educator and is currently
Principal of Lam Tin Methodist Primary School. Mr Pang Yiu-kai
has rich experience in public service. He is currently the
Chairman of the Advisory Committee on School-based Management
and a member of the Board of Education and the School Allocation
Committee.
Dr Rosanna Wong Yick-ming was appointed earlier as the Chairman
of the EC for a term of two years from May 1, 2001 to April
30, 2003. The Secretary for Education and Manpower will continue
to be the ex-officio Vice-chairman of the EC. The Director
of Education, and the Chairmen of the Advisory Committee on
Teacher Education and Qualifications, the Board of Education,
the Curriculum Development Council, the Hong Kong Examinations
Authority, the University Grants Committee and the Vocational
Training Council will continue to be ex-officio members of
the Commission.
The Secretary for Education and Manpower, Mrs Fanny Law,
said: "We welcome the re-appointment of the incumbent
non-official members who have made valuable contributions
to the work of the EC. We also welcome the appointment of
the two new members to the EC. With their rich experience
in education and other sectors of the community, I am confident
that they will be able to contribute useful ideas and provide
effective support to the work of the Commission.
