The Government today (June 30) announced the appointment of members to the Education Commission (EC).

Professor Leslie Lo and Mrs Dorothy Chan are appointed to the Commission in their personal capacity for a two-year term with effect from July 1, 2003. Professor Lo is the Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Mrs Chan is a retired principal and now the supervisor of Law Ting Pong Secondary School.

Meanwhile, several incumbent members are re-appointed in their personal capacity for a two-year term with effect from July 1, 2003, including The Hon Cheung Man-kwong, Mr Pang Yiu-kai, Ms Harlanna Yeung and The Hon Yeung Yiu-chung.

Dr Rosanna Wong has been re-appointed as EC Chairman on May 1. Mr Fung Man-ching, Dr Simon Leung, Dr Sandra Tsang, Dr Anissa Chan and Mr Moses Cheng were earlier appointed to the Commission on January 13.

The Secretary for Education and Manpower, Professor Arthur K C Li, said, "We welcome the appointment of the two new members to the EC. With their professional knowledge in various stages and sectors of education, I am confident that they will be able to contribute useful ideas and provide effective support to the work of the Commission."

Professor Li also thanked the outgoing members, Mr Andrew Leung, Mr Irving Koo, Ms Chan Chui-chun, Professor Chung Yue-ping and Mr Tso Kai-lok for their contribution. "The accomplishments of the EC in the past years owe much to their valuable contribution," he said.

Also represented on the EC on an ex-officio basis are the Chairmen of the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research, the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee, the Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications, the Curriculum Development Council, the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority Council, the University Grants Committee and the Vocational Training Council as well as the Permanent Secretary for Education and Manpower.
