The Government today (December 31) announced the appointments of three non-official members to the Education Commission (EC) for a two-year term with effect from January 1, 2004.

Newly appointed members are Dr Cheung Kwok-wah, the Chairperson of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation and Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong, and Mr Lau Chi-keung, the Chairman of the Subsidised Primary Schools Council and Headmaster of Tai Po Old Market Public School.

Reappointed is Dr Simon Leung Man-on, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Special Schools Council and Chief Executive Officer of Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired.

The Secretary for Education and Manpower, Professor Arthur K C Li, said: "We welcome the three appointees to the Education Commission. With their professional knowledge in various sectors of education, I am confident that they will be able to contribute useful ideas and provide effective support to the work of the commission."

Professor Li also thanked the outgoing members, Mr Fung Man-ching and Dr Sandra Tsang, for their valuable contribution to the work of EC.
