The Chairman of the Education Commission (EC), Dr David Wong, led members of the EC to visit the Learning and Teaching Expo (LTE) 2026 on 25 June 2026 to learn about the latest developments and frontier applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative technologies in learning and teaching, and to understand the implementation progress of digital education initiatives.

As a key event of Digital Education Week, this year’s Expo brought together local and overseas education professionals, institutions for technological specialists and school leaders to explore how AI and advanced digital solutions can effectively enhance classroom pedagogy and improve students’ learning outcomes. The EC members visited the international pavilions, the Education Bureau Zone, as well as various booths on innovation and technology to gain insights into the latest global trends of educational technologies, and comparative experiences in AI integration and the newest digital initiatives across different regions.

The EC members exchanged views with teachers, students and exhibitors on how the diverse innovative solutions showcased at the Expo could be effectively integrated into daily teaching. Discussions focused on the effective use of data analytics for enhancing teaching quality with precision, the application of assistive technologies to support students with various learning needs, and the strengthening of teachers’ professional development. The EC members generally opine that this year’s expo demonstrates a clear international perspective and fruitful results from cross-disciplinary collaboration, while the local education sector’s efforts in adopting AI applications are becoming increasingly diverse, injecting new momentum into educational innovation.

Dr Wong stated that the EC recognises the Government’s sustained efforts to advance digital education in Hong Kong. He emphasised that fostering the integrated development of education, technology and talent not only enhances teaching quality and nurtures innovation and technology talent, but also aligns with the strategic goals of Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Plan in building the city into an international hub for high-calibre talents and promoting the integrated development of education, technology and talent, as well as the overarching development direction of the national strategy to invigorate the country through science and education and to build a leading nation in education. The EC will continue to focus on these priorities and work closely with the education sector and stakeholders to explore sustainable directions for learning and teaching development in the digital era.

EC members who participated in today’s event included Ir Dr Alex Chan, Dr Anissa Chan, Dr Sylvia Chan, Ms Mimi Cheung, Mr Eugene Fong, Mr Kwok Wing-keung, Mr Benjamin Ng, Professor Isabella Poon, Dr Winnie Tang, and Mr Dieter Yih.
